NJEEDS Research Agenda: 2016-2017

The NJ Education to Earnings Data Stewards Work Group and Data Advisory Council reviewed and agreed upon the following research agenda and set of research priorities to be used to guide research resource investments and the use of the state’s longitudinal data for research purposes. Guiding questions agreed to in 2015 by the governance groups are:

  • What are the predicators of educational outcomes in NJ?
  • What are the predicators of workforce outcomes in education and higher education characteristics and performance throughout a person’s career?
  • Are there correlations among high school profile, higher education profile and workforce success?
  • What data elements are necessary to fulfill required federal, state and school reports?

NJEEDS Research Area Priorities (2016-2017)

A. Post High School Transitions

1. Labor Market Outcomes of High School Graduates and Drops Out by school district who are at least 18 years old

2. Post-Secondary Outcomes of High School Graduates and Drops Out by school district who are at least 18 years old

3. Labor Market Outcomes of Students completing Career/Technical Education (CTE) Programs

4. Post-Secondary Outcomes of Students completing CTE Programs, in their major area of study

5. High School Graduates Enrolled in College 1 year after Graduation

6. High School Graduates Assessed as needing Remedial/Developmental Course in Post-Secondary Education

7. High School Graduates Enrolled in College and/or Employed by the Fall after Graduation

B. Post Post-Secondary Transitions

1. Labor Market Outcomes (Employment and Earnings), by degree, area of study and institution, of NJ Post-Secondary Graduates (in state)

2. Labor Market Outcomes (Employment and Earnings), by degree and area of study, of NJ Post-Secondary Graduates (who take jobs out of state)

3. Enrollment by NJ students in additional education after transfer or graduation

C. Employment Outcomes

1. Employment and Average Earnings of graduates of state and federal financed education and training programs

2. Credential attainment of graduates of state and federal financed education and training programs (3)

3. Average Wages of individuals who participated in TANF/GA/SNAP/DVR financed education and training programs

4. Employment and Earning of adults participating in literacy programs

5. Labor Market Outcomes of Graduates of Registered Apprenticeships

D. Industry Skills and Education

1. Current adult workers age 18 and older in the NJ labor market holding educational credentials and certificates in targeted industry areas (e.g., STEM, Health Care, Finance, etc.), by geographic location

2. Characteristics of High School Students Who Took and Passed Certification Tests at NJ Community Colleges
